Callaghan (de Cardiff), (Leonard) James Callaghan, barón
(n. 27 mar. 1912, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Inglaterra).

Político británico. Dirigente sindical, ingresó a la Cámara de los Comunes en 1945 como miembro del Partido Laborista. Participó en gobiernos laboristas como Exchequer (ministro de hacienda) (1964–67), home secretary (ministro del interior) (1967–70) y foreign secretary (ministrro de asuntos exteriores) (1974–76), antes de convertirse en primer ministro (1976–79). De tendencia moderada dentro de su partido, intentó contener las vociferantes demandas de los sindicatos. Después de una serie de huelgas de trabajadores en 1978–79 (el llamado "invierno del descontento), su gobierno fue derribado por un voto de no confianza del parlamento. Fue hecho par de la Cámara de los Lores en 1987.
